AboutIndividualised Living Options

Individualised Living Option (ILO) is a type of NDIS support designed to provide highly flexible, individual-focussed support for people with disability. It gives you the choice to decide who you want to live with, where you want to live, and how you want to live.  It is different from traditional group-home arrangements because it keeps the individual’s choice, requirement and control at the absolute centre of the arrangement. Which means you can either choose to live with a host or a housemate or structure your supports to help you live the way you want to.

Choice and Control

ILO is designed around your unique needs, preferences, and goals, giving you maximum choice over: where you live, who you live with and the supports you need.

Mix of Supports

ILO packages combine both: Formal/Paid Supports like drop-in support workers, personal care, and home management assistance, and Informal/Unpaid Supports like leveraging the assistance of family, friends, neighbours, and community members.

It is flexible as the support package is designed to adapt and change as your life, goals, or needs evolve.

ILO funding covers the support you need to live independently, not the cost of the physical house, rent, mortgage, or standard household utilities (like food and electricity).

Who can benefit from

Individualised Living Options?

Individualised Living Options is for those NDIS participants who are looking for a flexible, well-supported option to living independently.

Support-Needs Profile:

ILO is generally best suited for those participants who have moderate support needs, and who do not require 24/7 or high-intensity clinical care.

Seeking Flexibility and Control:

Participants who want maximum say in their living environment will benefit greatly from ILO’s highly person-centred and flexible design. This includes those who want to choose their co-residents, want to live alone, and are ready to build a customised support package.

Home and Living Goals:

ILO is a great option for participants whose goals involve creating a genuine sense of home and community integration.

What you need to get started

To receive ILO service, you must first be an eligible NDIS participant, and then the NDIS (National Disability Insurance Agency – NDIA) must assess ILO as a necessary support for you.

If you have more questions and need help to understand this better, do get in touch with us.

NDIS Eligibility for ILO

You need to be 18 years of age or above.

You need at least six hours of support at home each day. This can be a mix of formal (paid) and informal (unpaid) support (e.g., from family, friends, neighbours, or a housemate).

This is a workable option for those participants with moderate support needs. The participant does not require 24/7 rostered or high-intensity clinical support from professional staff.

Your NDIS plan should reflect the goal related to exploring home and living options or achieving independence.

They must be willing to invest time and effort in the detailed planning process.
